The end of the week and the end of the month can only mean one thing… mixED.
The 16th edition of the mixED series is produced by Birmingham-based DJ, Mark E, bringing you 74 minutes of overwhelmingly deliberate, quintessential house music.
Mark manages to deliver a sound that is uniquely blue collar and utilitarian—classic, almost industrial house, with a hint of disco warmth.
The First Step to Wheels & Waves Apr 22, 2015
Wheels & Waves is not an event, but a meeting of friends from around the world in a celebration of motorcycle culture, surfing, art, design, good food and great times.
The first step towards the big June meeting is the winter ride across the snowy Pyrenees, where a multitude of motorcycle styles and diverse riders come together to ride, eat, laugh and ride some more.
KURABO: The Kurabo Mill was founded over 110 years ago, making it one of the oldest manufacturers of Japanese textiles. The birthplace of Japanese selvage denim, Kurabo have pioneered many manufacturing practices that are commonly used today.
KAIHARA: Founded in 1951, the Kaihara Mill is seen as a relative newcomer in comparison to some of their competitors, but their unique in-house rope dying technique allows them to produce a high quality product.
NIHON MENPU: Starting life back in 1920, the Nihon Menpu became one of the first Japanese mills to produce denim back in the 1960′s after forming a close relationship with Edwin.
NISSHINBO: Combining traditional Japanese textile manufacturing techniques with modern techniques, the Nisshinbo Mill was founded in 1907 with a focus on producing only the finest products.
Highsnobiety Q&A Apr 17, 2015
With the opening of our new store in Berlin last week, Highsnobiety took the time to sit down with our very own Pierre Boiselle to talk about the balance of heritage and modernity, the perfect Edwin playlist, and creating communities.
For Spring/Summer 2015, the Edwin Womenswear Capsule Collection concentrates on everyday, elevated basics, bringing together a contemporary mix of signature denim along with a selection of workwear and sportswear inspired pieces.

mixED 15 – King So So Apr 7, 2015
This month, we take a dip in the Lake of Sweet Dreams and dance with the animals on the shore as we bring you “Afterglow In The Sky – Chapter One” by King So So.
It is not entirely clear if King So So was born on planet Earth or somewhere in the sky. Some biographies claim that King So So grew up with wolves in the deep forests of Siberia but later in his life studied taxidermy at the University of the Sky.
However, as no biography on his life is regarded as neither accurate nor based on first-hand knowledge, it is not even clear if King So So is actually a man. Some lesbian groups (note: especially in South Africa and Australia), claim that King So So is in actual fact, a woman.
Rumour has it that King So So opened the Disco in the Sky after suffering from a severe bout of depression due to loneliness and intense attacks of melancholy.
Some die-hard fans believe that King So So set himself alight in the Disco in the Sky, after an unfortunate event when a disco ball fell on his favourite flamingo, and instantly killed her. Allegedly the Disco in the Sky remains open, and around the world, fans believe that it is the only path to ultimate enlightenment.
Fit Focus: ED-85 Mar 31, 2015
The latest addition to the 5-pocket denim collection is the ED-85, a slim tapered fit with a low crotch for added comfort.
For Spring/Summer, the ED-85 is available in Compact Blue and Carbon Black denim, a modern style made from a comfort stretch fabric, created using a yarn that includes elastic fibres.
Building on Edwin’s longstanding partnership with Parisian duo ‘Blitz Motorcycles’, this capsule collection is not only hard-wearing and functional, but also serves as an extension of the Spring/Summer collection.
Working closely with Japanese cotton and jersey, the monochromatic theme is complemented with the addition of prints, patches and accessories.
In our opinion, the Marseille-based producer is one of the most talented out there at the moment, producing music for both movies and commercials with his new EP set to be released on 26th March on Astro Lab Recordings, complete with a Pilooski remix.
A Closer Look: ED-80 Made in Japan Mar 17, 2015
For Spring/Summer 2015, we continue to collaborate with Edwin Japan to create classic European styles using distinctly Japanese fabrics and methods.
The ED-80 Made in Japan is crafted from a 12.5oz Stretch Selvage Denim at the world famous Nihon Menpu Mill and is available in two washes, Dark Used and Light Used, showcasing subtle Japanese wash processes.
This special edition ED-80 celebrates the workmanship and Japanese craftsmanship in denim making, combined with the undisputed European styling of the ED-80 fit.
For Spring/Summer 2015, Edwin Europe release the Trophy Leather Jacket, a classic piece of outerwear based on the iconic “Café Racer” style motorcycle jacket, evoking memories of early 1960′s Grand Prix road racing.
Made only of the highest quality leather, this slim fitting jacket features all of the original design features that you’d expect, including anatomic sleeves for extra movement and comfort, four pocket details and regulation zip openings at the cuff.
Reworking the jacket for the modern man, the cotton lining has been printed with a custom bandana design, completing the “Ton-Up” look.
The latest project from Macadam Mambo has arrived, Ultima Sensazione by Sacha Mambo (pictured above wearing Edwin) and Guillaume des Bois is full of weird disco, sunshine music, Italo stuff and good vibes!!
Released as 2xLP last month featuring artwork by artist Rémy Mattei (Mauvaise Foi). Limited Edition of 500.
If that wasn’t enough, Sacha also recently released “E2322 Space Capsule”, a real taste of his own musical roots with huge support From Laurent Garnier.
Liam Hodges is one of many young designers leading the new wave of menswear in London’s fashion scene, and his Spring/Summer 2015 collection has already sparked rave reviews since its debut at MAN during London Collections: Men.
As part of the ‘Kindred Survival’ collection, we have teamed up with Liam for a collaboration that sees our White Listed Black Black Denim combined with Hodges’ signature patchwork.
Using the iconic ED-55 silhouette and Buddy Jacket, Hodges has applied patchwork inspired by “whacked out” clan Kibbo Kift. The whole collection is an homage to boy scouts and outdoors-y men, taking inspiration from the badges of scouts, and the functional demands of the outdoors.
Last Tuesday, along with our friends at Peggs & Son, we threw a party to celebrate 10 years of working together.
We teamed up with MEATliquor for an evening of beers, burgers and indigo. Thanks to everyone who made it down on the night and especially MEATliquor and Peggs & Son for making it an evening to remember.
But the party isn’t over yet, because Peggs & Son want to see your pictures of the evening. As if you needed any more of an excuse to share your photos, they will be choosing one lucky winner who will walk away with a new pair of ED-55′s. All you have to do is post them on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #PeggsEdwin10.
The latest mixED release comes courtesy of Frankfurt-based producer, musician and DJ Phillip Lauer. Starting life dedicated to hip-hop and punk rock, Phillip finally succumbed to the pleasures of electronic music in the late nineties when he started to produce deep house tracks.
We spotted Phillip Lauer as part of Arto Mwambe and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere of his tracks. An amazing DJ, that you’ll often find playing at Robert Johnson in Frankfurt as well as a seasoned producer, working on projects such as Permanent Vacation, LIVE at Robert Johnson, DFA and a load more.
Lauer has also managed to find the time to team up Gerd Janson under the Tuff City Kids alias, starting life as a remix project, the partnership quickly evolved to include original productions for labels like Unterton and Delsin.
Urban Industry recently introduced a new feature to their Journal that takes a closer look at individuals living their lives in denim…
To kick things off UI spent the day with Paul, the founder of leather goods brand BORN & BRED at his Brighton based workshop to talk through its history, his work ethic and why he wears Edwin’s in the work space…
As Saschienne, Sascha Funke formed a duo with multi-talented instrumentalist, singer and wife Julienne Dessagne (The Twins), creating a sound previously unknown to anyone following his solo work.
To us, they are possibly the most brilliant and cool couple in the music industry, Saschienne is the perfect blend of Sascha and Julienne’s universe.
Until Next Time… Feb 19, 2015
Thanks to everyone who made it down to Jacket Required earlier in the month. See you in the summer…
mixED – Valentine’s Edition Feb 13, 2015
Ahh, Valentine’s Day, to some it’s a time to be showered with love and affection, then there are others who would rather punch Cupid in the face!
Thanks to Laurent, we bring you a romantic edition of mixED full of disco, funk and cheese, whether you like it or not!
“CHEESY MUSIC FOR A CHEESY DAY”
Spring / Summer 2015 Lookbook Feb 10, 2015
Working with a selection of refined Japanese and European denim, in both selvage and non-selvage, Edwin presents a range of new washes for Spring/Summer 2015, to accompany more established, unwashed pieces.
Continuing to work closely with world renowned Italian laundry Martelli, the G Wash and HR Series continue to go from strength to strength, representing the ultimate balance between beautifully crafted, classic and contemporary denim.
To complete the 5-pocket denim offering, a slim tapered, low crotch fit has been introduced, known as the ED-85.
A variety of bold patterns are noticeable throughout the collection, including leopard print, camouflage, light knit jersey and appliqué detailing. The addition of unique wash processes and classic, core pieces create a strong and well-rounded offering.
Founder of Astro Lab Recordings, Laurent originally launched his radio show to showcase the hard to find music that adorned the shelves in his house. Almost nine years on, Astro Lab now works closely with an eclectic mix of up and coming artists, pairing them with more established acts such as Ivan Smagghe and Andrew Weatherall to name a few.
“These days, I think a lot about the Californian way of life, road trippin’ between Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert. To me, this mix really sums up the tracks you’d hear out on the open road, passing motels and beaches, while still finding time to sunbathe and skate.”
I’ve had the chance to play with him a couple of times recently in Nantes and at Sonar in Barcelona, as both a DJ and a live act, so I’m really happy to share his eclectic mix of hard to find records.” Laurent Pastor.
To kick things off in 2015, Laurent asked French DJ, Pilooski to put together the latest instalment of mixED, bringing you a selection of weird soul, pop and electronic music.
“I’ve been a big fan of Pilooski’s work for a long time now, not only as a DJ and music selector, but also as a producer and remixer for the likes of Brian Ferry, Jarvis Cocker, Baxter Dury and LCD Soundsystem. If that wasn’t enough, Pilooski has also been a consultant for brands such as Hermès and Lanvin as well as for several films and TV commercials.”
“Expect a dreamy, drummy, cinema infused mix, full of marimbas, spooky synths, children at church and pop dissonance. Enjoy!”
For the latest mixED, we have called on the Acid House Veteran, Techno Survivor, Beard Scientist and Freelance Disco Consultant, Sean Johnston, to end the year on a high.
Sean’s DJ’ing style described by FACT Magazine as “Future Disco” is hard to pin down to one convenient genre, taking in house, disco, re-edits, techno and frankly anything else that takes his fancy.
Alongside Andrew Weatherall, he runs and DJ’s at A Love From Outer Space. The night’s manifesto is to never knowingly exceed 122bpm and is home to a multitude of genres including ambient, balearica, dub, krautrock, post punk, proto house, un-disco and other curiosities from the pair’s extensive record collections.
“Here’s a classic form that has been abused, lived in, faded, worn thin, patched up and yet is totally unique. It’s my take on disco, but the description could equally apply to a great pair of jeans….”
For the first time in Edwin’s jean-making history, we have collaborated with English manufacturer Cookson & Clegg.
Specialising in Military and British Workwear since 1860, they have produced two handmade denim styles in Edwin’s very own 14oz Japanese Red Listed Selvage.
The 49 Pant is a tapered fitting, five-pocket style, based on a 1950s cut with a high-rise, single stitch arcuate and dual branded fabric labelling. Cookson’s expertise in the workwear industry has also led to the production of the 49 Jacket, a 1940s inspired denim jacket, hand crafted in Lancashire, England.
This Thursday, we are celebrating the grand opening of our second store in Paris at 100 Boulevard Beaumarchais. To mark the occasion we are releasing a limited edition pair of ED-55s that will be sold exclusively in store.
Only 40 pairs of the ED-55 have been manufactured, made of a 13oz un-dyed loom state, red listed selvage denim featuring a hand numbered print inside the pocket including a map of Paris, the two store locations and the famous PSG slogan “ICI C’EST PARIS”

For the month of November, Laurent Pastor has enlisted the help of Red Axes to produce the latest mixED release.
Originally part of a new-wave / post punk band called Red Cotton, the Tel Aviv-based duo, Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi returned to Israel after travelling Europe and began an underground psychedelic electronic party series called “Break It!”
mixED 6 was recorded earlier in the year while Red Axes were in Cologne, throwing together an impromptu mix of some of their favourite records.
Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2014 Oct 28, 2014
For Autumn/Winter 2014, the Womenswear Collection offers a clean and concise denim programme, featuring a selection of distinct five-pocket fits, ranging from the newly offered super skinny Wanda Pant to the Herman: a truly authentic straight cut pant available in selvage denim.
This predominantly monochromatic collection compliments the true indigo denim offering with classic feminine jersey pieces alongside fine knit angora blend knitwear, as well as the return of the poncho in a new autumnal colourway.
Lead singer in a horse mask, NEW YORK, Ghostbuster burgers and a fancy looking Primark. That is all…
Mr. Black – Garment Essentials Oct 20, 2014
The Edwin Store London have just taken delivery of a load of new Mr. Black product including, Regular Wash, Dark Wash, Wool and Cashmere Wash and Refresh Spray, Cotton and Linen Wash and Refresh Spray, Shoe Cleaner and Shoe Refresh Spray.
For Autumn/Winter 2014, Dr. Martens collaborate with Edwin, Alpha, Brutus and Trojan Records and take a moment to look back into the early days of skinhead culture with a short film from Mike Skinner of The Streets.
Selectism sit down with Skinner to talk original skinheads, keeping Ska alive and the decline of the mod.
In providing timeless styles with a distinct Edwin twist, we have worked closely with their team to produce a selection of superlative jackets, all considered essential purist items, combining the style of the leather jacket with five-pocket denim history.
These items are extremely special, with one skilled craftsman hand-making each garment from start to finish. This is the antithesis of a mass-produced product, with each garment taking up to four days to produce to this exacting level of quality. From the original Talon zippers, Horween Chromexcel leathers, luxury Shearling Mouton and the other incredible skins used on these pieces, the attention to detail is almost ‘perfect’.
Producing the best, means doing the little things right. Taking time on the details, not cutting corners and selecting the correct components strictly for their provenance and quality, Alexander Leathers are a perfect example of this ideology and this product is made to last a lifetime.
Edwin x Alexander Leathers, an exemplary made to order product, hand-crafted in Selkirk, Scotland for Edwin Denim Co.
Fairplay originally operated as Weatherall’s engineer, working from a room in the basement of the near-mythical Scrutton Street studio alongside analogue alchemists, Richard Fearless, Daniel Avery and Scott Fraser. The pair went on to form production duo, The Asphodells, releasing their first LP, a glorious celebration of mid period factory records, post punk and electronica, inspired by John Betjeman and Ar Kane.
mixED 5 brings you an eclectic mix of psychedelic dance music inspired by dub, disco and post-punk.
A Closer Look: Camouflage Oct 2, 2014
This season we continue the camouflage theme with a selection of Japanese fabrics in typical autumnal colourways, including the Simple Post Blazer, 55 Chino and the Rain Coat.
The event was held at Peel and Stone, set under a railway arch on Water Street, the home of Birmingham’s finest bakery. Peel and Stone kindly provided the catering for the event with a smoked BBQ selection and Pistonhead provided the drinks that went down very well with Liquor Store faithful.
A big thanks to everyone who came down to show their support on the night.

Just one more reason to go visit one of the last great London emporiums!
Edwin Japan x Edwin Europe Sep 16, 2014
Autumn / Winter 2014, sees the general release of the collaboration between Edwin Europe and Edwin Japan, creating the “ED-55 Made in Japan” using 14oz Vintage Selvage Denim, exclusively developed by the famous Japanese denim mill, Nihon Menpu.
This very special edition ED-55 celebrates Japanese workmanship and craftsmanship, combined with the unmistakable European styling of the ED-55. This particular fabric respects the traditional methods of denim-making with no pre-shrink processing.
During the wash process, the denim will shrink by an estimated 1.5 sizes, so we recommend up to eight domestic washes before this denim fits to size. Of course, in our humble opinion, the best alternative is to simply not wash them.
The first in the series of the Weavers Door Wardrobe series takes inspiration from Liverpools rich maritime history and see’s friend of the store Jack Pilkington playing the part of the piermaster while wandering the docks.
The term legend is often banded about far too easily, but in this case it is entirely accurate! Justin brings with him a rich history as one of the creators of the Electronic Music scene, as well as a restless need to push forward and innovate, making him one of the most relevant DJ’s around.
“I’ve tried to traverse the spectrum in terms of moods, soothing and turbulent in equal parts, something intriguing, something new, but with a scent of the familiar, much like a good pair of jeans…”
The Spirit of 69 – Dr. Martens x Edwin Sep 1, 2014
The Spirit of 69 capsule collection from Dr. Martens is a modern interpretation of a look started back in 1969 by the first generation skinheads. The collection has been developed by working with brands that have been involved with this subculture from back in the day as well as innovating brands within categories associated with the skinhead staples – Alpha Industries, Brutus, Edwin and Trojan Records.
Dr. Martens have collaborated with Edwin this season to create a modern interpretation of the bleached jean style that was much loved by first generation skinheads. Available in the slim fit ED-80 for men and Herman Pant for women. Both pairs of jeans include laser etched, Vietnamese camouflage and custom leather branding made in the famous Cobbs Lane factory in Wollaston, UK.
Musician Mike Skinner has created a film to celebrate this movement. The parallels with Skinner and skinhead subculture are obvious: his musical education was an eclectic mix of cultural genres; including his own work with The Streets. The film is an energetic journey through the characters, music, style and sentiment of this influential multi-racial moment, inspired by the authentic individuals who lived it and still influence youth culture today.

Moto Adventures: Morocco Aug 18, 2014
“My brain is chapped, my eyeballs need Supergluing in place and every screw in my head has vibrated loose.
I’m on a motorcycle tour of Morocco with the company Moto Aventures. I flew into Marrakesh, drove over the High Atlas Mountains to Ourzazate, joined a group of Portuguese riders and set off on three days of punishing off-road riding on a 450cc KTM enduro bike.”

Standing at the crossroads between glamorous parisian hype and musical integrity, Ivan has the ability to play music like a raw conduit between his famously obscure records and the dancefloor’s strobe-soaked bodies, injecting something of himself seamlessly into the mix along the way.
“I like music. I like jeans. I like good music and I like good jeans, both need to be worn to fit. It has nothing to do with technique, actually you need to see the seams. I hope it will fit someone else more than just me, but hey, I’m wearing the trousers.”
Commute Aug 4, 2014
And you thought your rush-hour was a pain in the arse…
