Unknown to the unknown and committed to the power of human speech, French DJ and artist Elen Huynh explores the boundaries between words and music, mixing them with the absorbing idea of storytelling that toes the line with the mystical musical narration of DJs like Tutu from Barcelona.
She started in late 2016 with a residency on Lyon based radio station LYL, where she hosts her monthly 'Choses Contraires' show combining her vocal trips, found sound collages, modern classical vibes and other musical oddities.
Sometimes she also invites selected artists to collaborate with some spoken words for the theme of the show, such as visual artist and electro-acoustic research producer, Broshuda and BFDM producer Basses Terres. This collaborative spirit led Elen to her first physical release on the Paris-based label, Antinote, providing meditative, charming and nonchalant words over the tune 'Respiration Alternee' on the 'Lucky Boy' EP by River Yarra.
For our final mix of 2018, Elen has delivered a poetic spoken-word special including some of her personal favourite artists like English poet and songwriter Anne Clark, short-lived 80's minimal synth duo, The (Hypothetical) Prophets and US-American Illbient hero, Spectre.
Expect an hour of different genres including smudgy dub, experimental ambient, feverish rap, squeaky industrial and words, words, words...
