Ever since Americans brought baseball or ''besuboru'' to Japan in the late 1800s, it has woven itself into the fabric of Japanese culture, becoming an integral part of their identity.
Baseball was first introduced to Japan as a school sport in 1872 by American Horace Wilson, an English professor at the Kaisei Academy in Tokyo. The first organized adult baseball team called the Shimbashi Athletic Club, was established in 1878.
Nowadays, the influence of this sport on Japanese society continues to evolve, revealing a vibrant tapestry of community, history, and tradition fostered by both fans and players. At its core, the national phenomenon exemplifies a distinctive characteristic of Japan: the remarkable talent to embrace foreign concepts and transform them into something uniquely profound.
